Draft Disinformation

Ron Peacock
Wooster, OH (PN)

Disinformation is quickly becoming the earmark of the liberal left and a primary tool of the Democratic Party and its dubious operatives. In another desperate attempt to salvage John Kerry's sinking campaign, the left is floating the idea that President Bush will reinstate the draft if re-elected.

This debunked rumor has even been suggested by candidates John Kerry and John Edwards. Some mainstream media outlets have also fallen for this bogus hoax while MTV and Rock the Vote are openly dispensing this rumor as fact to their "intellect impaired" base. Most astounding, in the shadow of memo-gate, CBS News aired this story even though it is based on a known bogus e-mail campaign. CBS and reporter Richard Schlesinger are sticking by the story. Sound familiar?

Now, the truth of the story. The only movement to revive the draft came from the Democratic Party. Yes, the same party making these accusations against the President. For political reasons of their own, Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) and Sen. Fritz Hollings (D-SC) introduced bills H.R. 163 and S.89, respectively, to Congress on January 7, 2003. The bills where backed by a handful of Democrats and sent to committee. As far as The Pavo News can determine, the bills have not made it out of committee and no other action has been taken.

It is not surprising that the left will resort to disinformation in a panicked attempt to sway the electorate. What is frightening are the legions of "mindless minions" willing to sheepishly accept any scrap of falsehood carted out before them. In this age of information availability, a very small amount of investigative effort will reveal the truth. This applies to every responsible citizen as well as the news division of CBS.

Please people; use your "common sense" and the resources at your disposal before you accept everything as fact. Recent revelations relating to CBS, The New York Time, Wesley Clark (Gen. Ret.), Michael Moore(on), etc., … , should emphasize the importance of factual research before we acknowledge anything as truth. Three words: Verify, verify, verify!
