A professor at The University of North Texas was speaking
to a class on politics one day recently, when one young
student (majoring in both history and politics) raised
his hand and mentioned that it appears to him, that we are
losing some individual freedoms over the last few decades.
The professor replied to the student; "That is exactly
what has been happening in America over the last forty plus
years".
He then asked the student; "Do you know how to catch
wild pigs?" The student thought the question was a
joke and asked for the punch line. The professor promptly
assured him that it was no joke. The professor then said;
"Let me explain how it is done".
"You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable clearing
in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find
it and begin to come everyday to eat the 'free' corn. When
they become used to coming each day, you put a fence down
one side of this area. When they get used to that portion
of fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you then
put up another side of the fence. They get used to that
and start to eat again. You continue until you have all
four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side.
The pigs, which are now very used to the 'free' food, start
coming through the gate to eat that 'free' corn again, and
again. You then slam the gate on them. They run around and
around inside the fence, but they soon realize that they
are caught. So, they just go back to eating the 'free' corn.
They get so used to it that they forget how to forage in
the woods for themselves for food; so they just accept it."
"Our government has been pushing us toward Socialism
by spreading the 'free' corn out in the form of handouts'
such as; supplemental income, Section 8 housing, unearned
income credits, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, food
stamps, rent vouchers, payments not to plant crops (CRP),
welfare, medicine, drugs, etc, etc, while we continually
lose our freedoms, just a little at a time."
"One should always remember two truths: There is no
such thing as a free lunch and you can never hire someone
to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it
yourself", the teacher concluded.
