During the
interval prior to our arrival, keep these things in mind. First,
we are at war, the end is not near and
another attack is imminent. Recently, it has come to my attention
that there is a contingent amongst us under the false and dangerous
impression that we are not engaged in war. Well, just as the proverbial
ostrich can stick his head in the sand, conclude all danger is gone
or never existed, it seems a misguided number of people have chosen
a similar route. Submerging their heads in a veil of ignorance,
these select few have chosen to blind themselves to the truth surrounding
them. Perhaps they are motivated by flawed ideologies, a lack of
historical perspective or a deficit of fortitude. The cause of such
unawareness is not my concern, rather, the effect and expense this
attitude will have upon the future security of this nation.
We must not allow our personal wants and wishes to cloud
our vision. As much as we detest the thought of war, convince ourselves
there is no war or follow the lead of others who will take us down
that path, the facts are, we have no choice. Our enemy has declared
war on America. The choice has been made for us. Reluctant as some
may be, we have but one course -- acknowledge the reality of war
and follow it through with extreme prejudice. Pick your heads up
out of the sand or you will find your bones buried beneath it.
In the opinion of this writer, the war on terrorism
will become far worse before, or if ever, we see an end. As things
stand now, there is a very good chance we will be attacked again
and it may be as, if not more, devastating than 9/11. Vigilance,
awareness and perseverance are our shields. We must not falter.
Support our President and those in Congress who are moving to carry
the battle forward. And last, for those who are unable, never have,
or are unwilling to participate in our countries defense; those
who reap the rewards without the thought of sacrifice others have
made so they may enjoy our sheltered and pampered lifestyle, remember
to support our troops. Our freedom will be carried forward on the
blood they will shed in our defense.
