    Sadly, the year began in the wake of a devastating tsunami triggered by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake west of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The death toll continues to rise and with the western nations leading the way in monetary and logistical support, relief efforts are underway. Let us hope the oil rich Islamic Nations of the Middle East will step to the forefront of aid relief for their fellow Muslims and the citizens of the stricken region.

    The Pavo News would like to thank all our readers for their loyalty this past year. During 2004 we have increased our registered readership twofold. The website has averaged 8,400 hits per month with the month of August producing an astonishing 21,886 hits and we have managed to sell a few products from our new Shoppe (all profit is used to defray the cost and maintenance of the site, while 10% is reserved for the purchase of USO care packages for our valiant and faithful troops).

We were also pleased to learn we had been nominated and received a Golden Web Award from The International Association of Web Masters and Designers - "presented to those sites whose web design, originality and content have achieved levels of excellence deserving of recognition." We thank whomever for the nomination and willing accept any award or recognition that comes our way!

For 2005, The Pavo News will continue to cover the issues from our unique pavoesque perspective and should we mange to amuse you, enlighten you, entertain you or just plain piss you off, rest assured, "we ain't goin' away". As always, the publication of each issue will be unscheduled and at the whim of this editor.     The largest relief effort since WWII continues as the "civilized" nations of the world hurl vast sums of money and logistical resources into the tsunami ravaged regions of the Indian Ocean. Inconceivably, before the true extent of the devastations could be known, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Jan Egeland guilefully accused the USA of being "stingy".
